Senior Technical Writer / Team Lead

The Position

The individual that fills this Senior Technical Writer / Team Lead position will have a unique opportunity to be the founding leader of a documentation team, taking over an existing documentation set, establishing standards, adopting tooling and building out the information architecture of this critical part of our product offering. This position will work closely with Engineering, Product Management and our Field Technical Services and Support organizations to document the features and functions of the Theta Lake platform for a very technical and detail-oriented Enterprise user audience.

This position requires technical expertise in cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, the ability to communicate with customers to explain complex technical concepts, and optionally the desire to hire and lead a team. The position will report to the Director of Engineering for UI and Web.

Specifically, you will have the responsibility to:

  • Author clear, concise and accurate technical documentation for our customers to use to understand and configure the Theta Lake platform.
  • Establish standards for consistency in tone and terminology.
  • Create well structured and easy to follow documentation taxonomy.
  • Select and manage the technical documentation infrastructure of Theta Lake, taking over the existing framework, advocating for the adoption of new tools with demonstrable ROI, and ensuring those tools support data-driven decision making.
  • Optionally in the future, hire and manage a team of technical writers to expand the scope and scale of this function within Theta Lake.
  • Use your knowledge of competitive products, integrative products and AWS and Azure to communicate how Theta Lake is different and better than our competitors through our documentation.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced entrepreneurs to find creative solutions to tough problems where the management overhead is low and taking the initiative is encouraged and valued.

Compensation

$80,000/year to $120,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, location and market conditions. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include commission, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Theta Lake offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, 401(k), and health and dependent care flexible spending accounts.

  • Prior professional experience documenting a software-as-a-service, cloud-based product on AWS or Azure. Technical understanding of one of those platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely on technical topics

We’re most excited if you also have some of these skills (or are ready to learn):

  • Understanding of collaboration platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack
  • Knowledge of and experience with modern cloud-based tools designed to manage and publish technical documentation for software products
  • Experience with and general understanding of how to integrate documentation processes into software processes in an Enterprise software environment: requirements, demos, source code control (git), defect tracking (jira), estimation and planning, build, test automation, CI/CD, etc
